Just for fun

I sometimes wonder about the statements artists make about themselves, their process, their images.  I was on a fibre artist’s site today and read the statement on her home page.  Other than there was a lot of ‘self actualizing’ and flowery words it really didn’t say much about anything.   I like to believe that when you see something, you like it or you don’t.  Sometimes an explanation can bring something not previously thought of to light, or the artist can enlighten you about their process and materials, but still you like it or you don’t.  It is fun to play with words though.  I constructed this statement about an image I made recently.

Circular Impressions

There was a song from my teens with this title.  It was a humourous take on having a condom in your wallet waiting to be used.  Even though the song had humourous intent, I was thinking about how much the condom embodies the hope of the individual.  It is stashed in the wallet with the hope of it being used.  The circular impression represents the depth of that hope and the possibility of the hope turning into reality.  The shapes and colours I have used embody the intent, hope, and actuality.
