March

I know that the delineation of the month is an arbitrary thing.  It being March 1st is no different than it being February 28th, other than it is one day closer to the equinox.  Just being able to think “Ooo, it’s now March” is incredibly lifting to my spirit.  We might get another dumping of snow,  have many more deep freeze days, deal with not falling on the ice or getting splashed with slush from passing cars, but it being March communicates that the winter will come to an end sooner than later.  It is that ‘sooner’ that puts the wind back in my sails.  Bike rides, garden planning, the first blush of colour, snowdrops and crocuses, trips, all those things are now closer than they seemed in February, even though February was only yesterday.
