Maple keys
Maple keys are magical. When we walk to the library we cross a rail bridge and my kids always collect up things to drop over the bridge. Originally it was a physics demonstration: what happens when this falls? how do you think shape, density, thickness affects how it falls? what else can effect the results?…
Channeling Lassie?
I was sitting in our big comfy chair, reading a book, waiting for the oven timer to let me know that pizza was ready. I hear a small ‘wurf’. I look up to find our younger dog, Olive, standing in front of me. I reach out to pat her and she turns around and starts…
Crazy
I live in crazy. A crazy that I have done nothing to curb, I have more than likely encouraged or possibly have been an example for. I am presently enjoying a spontaneous bed time out burst of ‘Let’s go fly a kite’ circa Mary Poppins by my three youngest. Some other crazy to share… …my…
well, that sucked
Got home from vacation yesterday. Got let go from my job today. Not because I went on vacation, and not because I didn’t do my job well or did anything wrong. It was completely situational and I understand. The shoe no longer fit. Understandable or not, it still sucked.
Local colour
There are people that I see regularly but I don’t know. People passed on the street, fellow dog walkers, street people and vagrants. The colourful and the ordinary, familiar but unknown. If our paths cross often enough, names might be exchanged, but usually just first names. More frequently though it is a referential name: trench…
Road tripping

Maturing
I think I have spent a lot of my time as a parent thinking ‘I am not ready for this’. When you are first handed that beautiful, exquisite, little bundle that you have been percolating for the previous nine months, the first response is somewhere in the ‘Wow’ realm, and shortly thereafter, ‘I’m not ready…
Failing
I have a minor addiction to matching games. The kind that multicoloured jewels, candy, fruit, bubbles, bugs, monsters… fall from the top and three or more need to be matched. The goals are varied with either as many points as possible in a specific amount of time, a specific amount of points in a set…
taking my camera for a walk
In my late teens I was gifted a 35mm camera and that thing took the best photos. As time wore on and technology evolved and children didn’t stay still long enough for me to get everything set to take those awesome photos, life moments were captured by an automatic point and shoot camera. Last year…
