I am not a gardener. I love my garden, but if what I have planted can’t survive my lack of attention it wasn’t meant to be in my garden. Hardy plants, deep roots, good water absorbsion and retention, theoretically self sustaining, until too many +30C days and no rain. My poor garden was very sad. I kept figuring it had to rain soon and my herbaceous friends would just have to tough it out until it did. Then I noticed that one of my lilac bushes was drooping. It survived a rescue replanting from a neighbour’s drive way project three years ago. It is one thing to see the sundrops and violets struggle, they are drought and heat princesses, but when 10′ tall shrub’s leaves are hanging all limp and floppy… and another bush (my service berry) decided to cut its losses and suck all the moisture out of its berries…
I caved and spent an 1 1/2 hours watering. The garden looks like it is forgiving me my bordering on neglectful behaviour, maybe. There are a couple of hold outs.
