Why are bathing suits so incredibly ugly?
I went shopping with my kids. Shopping is never a happy occurance, but I have had recent success, so there wasn’t as much oppressive dread. My youngest needed a bathing suit and my second youngest thought the same. It didn’t matter whether we were in the women’s or girl’s section or which store we were in, we were faced with a wall of offensive colour. I am female and just like I didn’t all of a sudden fall in love with the colour pink when I was giving birth (the whole maternity ward was painted pink with a carosel horse paper border), looking for bathing suits didn’t magically make me want to wear neon technicolour puke. Neon anything has never been on my ‘need to wear’ list, and I lived through the eighties. Floral, paisley, stripes, abstract ick, it didn’t matter, all colour combinations were eye searing, some suits were weirdly textured, like paper towel, and what is with the gold accent metal additions… I could venture into the ‘why some bathing suits supply their own boobs?’ or ‘how does half a bikini cost more than a pair of trousers?’, but I think that might be pondering the unanswerable.
