I am not a baby person. I have had four of my own and love them to bits but I do not gush exclamation points when I see other babies. I do not feel the need to hold every baby I see, especially seeing as babies are containers in which bodily fluids overflow. It is one thing to deal with bodily fluids from a creature of your own making, it is quite another (mentally at least) to have someone else’s kid puke on you or rub snot on your shoulder. All that being said, my eldest daughter and I are in Nova Scotia visiting with my cousin, who had twins this past summer. We came to visit and to be extra arms for a short while. While being extra arms, I have been drooled and spit-up on, cried at, changed diapers (not just wet ones), and bounced, rocked and danced with fussy babies for hours. I have also been smiled and cooed at, inhaled warm, sweet baby smells, experienced the slight change in weight as the baby goes to sleep, and watched a sleeping baby dream. I may not be a universal baby person and I am certainly not adding to my own collection, but it is good to experience short term sharing.
