We are supposed to get another blast of winter tomorrow but today was all about spring. I could have happily stood at the end of my walkway, hot cup of tea in hand, warm sun on my back, listening to the birds sing their ‘hey baby, I am an awesome example of the male of the species’ songs and the sounds of the snow melting for the whole day. I did that for a little while, entertaining myself by watching a white breasted nuthatch stuff sunflower seeds in the cracks in the mortar of my chimney. If I didn’t insist that my children get outside and enjoy the fabulous day as well, what kind of mother would I be? After some pretty lackadaisical complaining and creative foot dragging I got most of them out for a walk. Sightings of an urban beaver and infrequently spotted duck and swan species doing their annual pass through, as well as a wee catch up with our neighbours, made the enforced march into a happy adventure. One of the best discoveries of the day was finding fresh green sprouting in my garden and my first snowdrop.
