Yesterday, I saw a merlin. It kind of sounds like I am beginning to write a poem or a song. I wouldn’t put anyone through my poetry though. Last poem I wrote was many moons ago and it started with “Here I stand in a puddle. Fuddle, duddle…”
I did see a merlin yesterday. It was resting on a branch that wasn’t ten feet away from where I stood. Usually, when I notice predatory birds they have noticed me long before and are already leaving. At the time I didn’t know what kind of bird it was. I stood and watched it twitch and rustle until it flew away. When I got home, I got out my handy dandy bird book and found out what it was. Evidently they are a rare sighting. Pretty darn awesome. I feel lucky to live where I do. I live on the edge of a city and I live on the edge of a wild life corridor.
