Politics

I don’t keep up with all the things that go on in the world of politics.  I know enough of what is going on and enough of what I would like to see that I feel confident in my choice when I vote.  So I am admitting I am not politically savvy.  That confession done with, I want to ponder aloud something that was sent from my member of parliament.  The first part of the mailing is an excerpt of a speech by my local member of parliament to the house about how U.S. Steel did not keep its promises to Hamilton that were made when it bought out Stelco.  The response to this from the minister of industry (my synopsis) was that U.S. Steel is losing money, the Hamilton plant mainly makes steel pipe, the NDP is protesting the proposed pipelines (my member of parliament is a member of the NDP), so it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out if there is no where for the steel pipe to go what is the reason to make it…

There is nothing after this.  How my local member of parliament responded has not been transcribed.  I have been left unsure of what the take away message is from this mailing. Am I to see that the topic of job loss at the U.S. Steel plant in Hamilton has been brought up, and that there is nothing to be done about?  You can either make good environmental choices or you can have jobs?  This is the situation people, suck it up?  I am not sure of what light this shines on the local M.P.

Ah-ha! I finally figured out why my posts time was out.  I am not in the future…
