My Thanksgiving weekend has been filled with the usual family, friends, food, and hang out time. There have been a couple things that have made this weekend standout in and amongst the years of holidays. First would be that this weekend was also my in-laws 5oth anniversary. Pretty amazing being married fifty years. What added to the momentous occasion was that my mother-in-law brought out the top layer of her wedding cake, which had been lovingly stored in the freezer all these years (with frequent re-wrappings). Believe it or not it was still pretty good for a fifty year old fruit cake. Everyone present had a taste and I am alive and well to document the occurrence. Maybe it is true that fruit cakes can last forever. She is going to soak it in rum and we are going to give it another try at Christmas.
This morning, while I was in the midst of my morning exercise, my three youngest children came and entertained me with a navel battle. No, that is not a misspelling. They came into the room, lifted their shirts and bashed and bounced off one another. A navel battle. I love the way their minds work.
