Artwork- a word that drives me buggy.

There is stonework.  Things made of or built out of stone.  There is woodwork.  Things made of or built out of wood.  There is metalwork.  Things made of or built out of metal.  (Maybe you can sense where I am going with this).  There is brushwork.  The way a brush is used to create an image.  There is pencil work.  The way a pencil is utilized to create an image.  There is chisel work.  The way a chisel is used to create an image.  (I am sure I could continue but I am probably already verging on tedious).  Then there is artwork.  Things made of or built out of art?  The way art is wielded to create an image?

Painters paint.  Sculptors sculpt.  Draftsmen draw.  Artists art?

Artwork.  I see the word everywhere.  Even in places that should know better.  My family will use it just to see me react, and I do, every time.  It is a ridiculous term.  Seeing it always triggers a rant.  The word ‘art’ encompasses all of the creative pursuits.  The pursuits are the work.  If the pursuit is successful, then it becomes art.  The work part is no longer applicable.
